The 1 Leading Race with Lewis Hamilton -

22 September , 2010

Mr S. Iswaran, Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry and Education,

Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,

On behalf of ExxonMobil’s Lubricants and Specialties business, I’d like to extend a warm welcome to everyone here today.

For millions of fans around the world, the Formula One race is a celebration of the world’s ultimate driving performance.  Every Formula One win requires the highest levels of execution, and the perfect synergy of driver, team, car, and engine performance.  For 15 years, Mobil 1 has been an integral part of the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team’s winning performance on the race track. It dates back to 1995 when Mobil 1, McLaren, and Mercedes first inked a deal on a Formula One team, paving the way for a partnership which has helped deliver results both on and off the racetrack.

On track, the technology behind our Mobil 1 motor oil and the relentless drive for its improvement has enabled over 100 wins in Formula One races.  Mobil 1 leads the industry not only because of its reputation on the track, but its ability to bring the lubrication technology from its Formula One research to all car drivers.  We use Grand Prix tracks as the ultimate proving ground to continually evolve our range of Mobil 1 motor oils, so that motorists like us receive benefits in the form of reduced engine wear, maximum performance and improved fuel economy.

Off track, we have also been supporting the McLaren Driver Development Programme from which world champions – like Lewis – have emerged.  We are very happy that he is here today, as a role model of someone who has dreamed big and gone on to achieve his dreams.  And we are glad to be associated with both his dreams and his achievements.

In the same spirit, I’m pleased to announce today, a new student award that we have launched with the Singapore Institute of Technical Education.  The Mobil 1 Scholarship will be awarded to the most outstanding student in ITE College West’s inaugural Technical Engineer Diploma in Automotive Engineering.  Intended to develop the next generation of automotive technical experts, this scholarship is aligned with ExxonMobil’s drive to encourage students to take an active interest in careers in the Maths and Science fields. We shall be presenting the first Mobil 1 Scholarship later today.

In conclusion, I’d like to express my thanks to our customers for their continuous support, and to ITE and Esso, for their contribution to the success of today’s event   And, finally, a special thank you to Lewis and the Vodafone Mercedes McLaren team for the great partnership and for making this event possible.
