HIV/AIDS

HIV/AIDS also poses an unprecedented health crisis in sub-Saharan Africa. HIV/AIDS strikes hardest at people in the prime of their lives and leaves behind orphans and elderly dependents. Global institutions and governments are joining to combat this disease. ExxonMobil is actively involved in resource-mobilization strategies and the sharing of best practices with such organizations as the Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS, the Global Health Initiative Task Force of the World Economic Forum and the Corporate Council on Africa.

• In Angola, we support a variety of community-focused HIV/AIDS education and prevention strategies.

• In Chad and Cameroon, we led campaigns to test villagers for curable sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and to provide treatment. We funded education regarding STDs in general and HIV/AIDS in particular.

• We support the Safe Blood for Africa Foundation (Safe Blood) to help countries provide quality blood bank technology to Africa. Since untested blood accounts for a significant portion Safety and health
