----------------------------------------------------
Lucas joined ExxonMobil in 2001 having graduated from Melbourne University with a combined degree in Chemical Engineering and Science. He had worked for ExxonMobil before as a vacation student during the summer of 1999/2000. Lucas started as a site based Facilities Engineer at the Longford Gas Plants.
"ExxonMobil offers new graduates the opportunity to re-locate to Sale and work as a site-based engineer. I took advantage of this unique opportunity to work closely with Operations and Maintenance. Working on-site provided the perfect environment to enhance process knowledge and gain technical experience. The day-to-day role involved scoping process improvements, troubleshooting, shut-down planning, risk and hazard management and providing technical process advice.”
Lucas then became Gas Systems Engineer to build his technical experience. His primary aim in the Gas Systems role was to ensure gas facilities operate reliability all year as a network. Typical tasks involved co-ordinating and scheduling gas system shutdowns, completing gas supply assessments and monitoring system performance.
The next role Lucas worked in was as a Reservoir Engineer. The role involved generating opportunities to maximise the productivity and profitability of gas and oil fields. Lucas had the opportunity to co-ordinate a drilling program working with a multi-discipline team on the Snapper field. In his third year as a Reservoir Engineer he took on responsibility for co-ordinating reserves for ExxonMobil assets in Australia and PNG.
"ExxonMobil ensures that you experience varied job roles in your first five to ten years to assist you to build your own career. In 2008 I have moved into the Safety, Regulatory group to work as a Risk Assessment engineer for offshore Gippsland platforms. As part of this role I will coordinate the submission of Safety Cases to the Regulator. Engineering Loss Prevention and Risk Assessment has been an interest of mine, and ExxonMobil has provided me with the experience and skills to shape my career in that direction.”
"Working for ExxonMobil has been very rewarding and the work has been both challenging and varied in scope. It has been great to work with operations and technical personnel who have many years experience and a real team attitude.”
