Our aim is that nobody gets hurt as a result of our operations. Safety is a
core value at ExxonMobil, all day, every day of the year, no matter what we do.
The key tool in maintaining safe operations is ExxonMobil’s global Operations
Integrity Management System (OIMS).
OIMS comprises 11 elements each with specific and clearly defined
expectations that every operation must fulfil.
OIMS is a
rigorous system that enables us to measure progress, plan improvements and
ensure broad accountability for results. In order to continuously improve
safety, we record all incidents and near misses, carry out detailed analysis
of cause and use that information to improve the way we operate. We benchmark
our performance against ExxonMobil's global standards, as well as relevant
external indicators. This rigorous analysis of data and the development of
plans to address any issues identified are key components in our goal of
achieving zero injuries in the workplace.
Our
commitment to safety includes giving employees the appropriate equipment to do
their jobs, developing procedures, training and policies that encourage the
correct use of equipment and promote a safety culture, and introducing
behaviour based methodologies that reinforce safe practices through real life
observations of work practices and feedback by employees' peers.
OIMS is used by every ExxonMobil facility. We conduct regular internal and
external assessments to ensure compliance and enable continuous improvement in
all aspects of safety, health and environmental performance.
ExxonMobil's major onshore processing facilities in Australia, located in
Gippsland and Melbourne, have developed detailed safety cases and are licenced
under Victorian Major Hazardous Facilities regulation. Each facility maintains
detailed safety and emergency response plans, all of which help give effect to
our goal that "Nobody Gets Hurt".
