Melbourne: Exxon Mobil Corporation announced
today that its subsidiary, Mobil Australia Resources Company Pty Limited, has
participated in a new gas discovery in Western Australia.
Located in the Carnarvon Basin, the Chandon 1 well was drilled in 1200 meters
of water to a total depth of 3.1 kilometres. It is located approximately 260
kilometers from shore and was spud on 21 June 2006.

said, “The successful discovery of a significant gas resource at Chandon 1
represents an important addition to ExxonMobil’s large and growing gas
resource base in Australia. Our ongoing exploration activities off Western
Australia reflect the substantial potential we see in the area and are aligned
with our global approach of pursuing world-class exploration opportunities."
Greenlee further added, "The discovery also builds upon our strong track
record in the region – including the ExxonMobil discovery of the Jansz field
in 2000.”

extends the company’s interests and activities in Western Australia. It
reinforces ExxonMobil’s commitment to investing in exploration opportunities
