Community groups in Western Port and Mornington Peninsula received a funding boost thanks to the volunteering efforts of Esso employees.
ExxonMobil Australia, parent company of Esso, recognises the volunteering work of its employees by providing $1,000 grants direct to the community organisations nominated by its employees under the company’s Volunteer Involvement Program.
Esso employees who had volunteered more than twenty hours of their time applied for the volunteering grants to assist schools, country fire authorities, kindergartens and surf life saving clubs.
Esso’s volunteering grants will enable community groups to buy much needed equipment and enhance facilities. Hastings CFA will buy cleaning equipment for its fire fighting vehicles, Mount Martha Life Saving Club plans to purchase new storage racks and Disability Opportunities Victoria (Rosebud) will purchase client mobility equipment. Esso’s funds will also help Boneo Primary School to develop its indigenous gardens, provide a shade sail at Dromana Kinder and establish a new community garden at Balnarring pre-school.
Stuart Jeffries, Esso Long Island Point Manager, said that Esso’s employee volunteering grants program is an example of one of the ways that the company supports local community groups in areas where we operate.
“Many of our employees are active community volunteers and we are pleased to recognise the time and effort they give to community groups,” he said.
A record number of ExxonMobil Australia employees applied for the volunteering grants this year, which totalled $158,000. ExxonMobil employees in Australia gave over 10,000 hours of their personal time to support community initiatives.
