Community liaison
Good relationships with our neighbours rely on effective communication. At our major processing and operating sites in Australia, formal processes have been introduced to facilitate communication with the community. For example, our Longford facility in Gippsland hosts an annual event to brief a range of groups about our business including representatives of the local council, the EPA, emergency services and community groups. Similar functions are hosted by Long Island Point and Barry Beach Marine Terminal.
As the Altona refinery and Yarraville terminal are situated in built-up urban areas, continuous communication with the local community is essential. Both facilities deliver regular news updates to local residents on events and developments at the facilities. They also have Community Liaison Committees, which include ExxonMobil management and representatives of the local communities, Hobsons Bay City Council, Environment Protection Authority, and City West Water. Regular meetings provide a forum for issues relating to the operation of our facilities to be discussed.
