On the job
ExxonMobil gives real meaning to the term 'training on the job'. Our new
employees get straight down to work. We believe this is the quickest way to
learn. You can always ask your co-workers if you have any questions. And you
can always take the necessary training if you need additional knowledge and
skills.
Job rotation
Job rotation is one of the cornerstones of management development at
ExxonMobil. The way your career develops depends primarily on you and your
performance. Your initial job will last from one to three years. The
impression we get of you will help us find your next position in the
ExxonMobil organization. Your job will continue to increase in weight and your
tasks will become increasingly complex and important.
Wide view
All our managers started at ExxonMobil immediately after they graduated. They
climbed to the highest levels through a process of continuous job rotations,
good supervision, internal development and increasing responsibilities. The
ExxonMobil managers of tomorrow must have a broad view of our organization,
both in terms of content and geography.
International
ExxonMobil is active all over the world and has countless international
affiliates, where you could be assigned. Look on
www.exxonmobil.com to see in which countries we are active.
Supervision and assessment
How are things? This is something you will hear a lot during your first two
years with us, both informally and formally. Every six months, you will meet
with your supervisor to discuss your responsabilities and your performance. Do
you still enjoy the work or do you miss certain skills to help you carry out
the tasks even better? We will draw up a personal training and development
plan and determine your salary increase on the basis of this interview.
Your performance will be evaluated annually after you have completed two years
with us. This will determine your opportunities and potential. At ExxonMobil
you have a great deal of control over your career. Show us what you can do and
we will reward your initiative.
Training
You will encounter three forms of training during your career. First, there is
the general formative training, such as introductory courses for new
employees. Then there is training that focuses on your personal skills, such
as those of presentation, communication and persuasion. And finally, there is
always the possibility of acquiring knowledge that will benefit you in your
daily work.
