Interviewing Tips

ExxonMobil uses an interview style that is behaviourally based, which means that we will ask you questions about previous experiences you have had in terms of competencies and technical skills. This method of interviewing not only allows us to assess your qualifications and fit for potential employment with ExxonMobil, but it also provides you with an excellent opportunity to highlight your skills and accomplishments in detail. You’ll also have the opportunity to assess us as a potential organization in which to apply your talents and education while taking on the world’s toughest energy challenges and growing your career.

Your first interview will be 45 minutes in length and will be conducted at your school location by an ExxonMobil employee working in the area to which you have applied. For graduate positions, the selection process includes multiple second interviews at the ExxonMobil work location.

All candidates will be asked a set of job-related questions that will provide us with an objective set of facts from which to base our hiring decision. We will be looking for recent examples from your work experiences, community involvement, university experiences, extra-curricular activities, etc., all of which can offer impressive testament to your knowledge, skills and abilities. Ultimately, you should be able to talk about specific accomplishments, challenges and outcomes.

For more tips on how to prepare for a behaviour-based interview, visit your career centre or co-op office.
