Growth & Development hand-in-hand with Challenge & Reward
At ExxonMobil, we like to think big, but never forget to make developments on
a smaller scale. Developing our greatest asset, our employees, is an integral
part of our business and we place great emphasis on providing our people with
the best training required to do the job. Our employees have made us the
success we are, and will take us where we want to go in the future. As we work
to tackle the demanding energy challenges that are an integral part of
business in today’s world, we need to ensure that our employees are prepared
to face those challenges head-on.
Fast-track your Career
with ExxonMobil
At ExxonMobil, we place a lot of emphasis
on continuous learning and development. Why? Because we know that just because
you've earned your degree doesn't mean you want to stop expanding your mind.
As the world’s leading petroleum and petrochemical company, ExxonMobil can
offer you diverse and challenging opportunities over the course of your
career. Our commitment to your development begins right from day one where
you’ll be given opportunities to challenge your skills and further develop
your talents. We have formal processes and structures in place to support you
during your first 3 to 5 years of employment including
orientation, a job rotation program,
training, mentorship, formal
feedback, and a networking program.
Additional programs are available at many of ExxonMobil’s locations in Canada.
While a number of these programs are less formal in structure, they are
designed to help you familiarize yourself with your new work environment and
provide you with valuable mentoring and coaching support from senior
professionals and managers. ExxonMobil is a great place to develop peer
networks, interact with the company's subject experts, and be immersed in a
collaborative learning environment.
At ExxonMobil, your paths
to success are diverse and wide open.
Orientation
Orientation processes help to quickly
familiarize new employees with the organization and educate them regarding how
to effectively operate within its systems and structures.
Orientation programs will vary depending on the ExxonMobil affiliate for which
you are working, and while some may be more informal in structure, they will
help you gain a better understanding of your work environment and our company.
Early Professional Development
ExxonMobil is a
dynamic and exciting place to progress your career, with programs in place to
help you fast track your development based on your needs. We work closely with
you to align your professional goals with training, formal feedback,
developmental opportunities, and a structured sequence of job rotations that
lead to increasingly challenging assignments where you will take on current
and relevant energy challenges.
You can expect to move
through different roles in your first few years and to be faced with a wide
range of challenges that will hone your skills and develop your business
acumen and expertise. In your initial job assignment, you’ll quickly focus on
developing core competencies and proficiencies (breadth and depth). Your
demonstrated performance in initial assignments leads to increasing
responsibilities to develop your technical competence and apply your skills in
more challenging and diverse situations.
Training
When you join ExxonMobil, you’ll have
access to an extensive library of computer-based and classroom training to
keep you growing. You may also benefit from on-the-job training that is
associated with particular job assignments and experiences.
Another key aspect to your overall development is non-technical training aimed
at increasing your personal effectiveness. You'll receive guidance in
essentials like communication skills, teamwork, presentation skills,
leadership and general business understanding.
Mentorship
At ExxonMobil, we make an investment
in employees by ensuring that they are consistently challenged and expanding
their skills and knowledge. Training specific to your job assignment is paced
to coincide with your individual skill development. You’ll be given specific
work responsibilities from day one to get you up and running. Plus, you’ll
receive guidance and support from our managers and supervisors, who are
committed to fostering an environment that supports continuous personal and
professional growth. They'll be there to guide you throughout your career, as
both mentors and coaches. They'll help you find your place within the company
and work with you to take your career wherever you want it to go. From day
one, you will be given opportunities to challenge your skills and further
develop your talents.
Formal
Feedback
At ExxonMobil, we have processes in place to
assess your performance and development. Goal setting, coaching sessions and
annual performance reviews are important components of these processes. These
programs help to ensure that each employee is given the tools they need to
achieve their professional goals and take on tough energy challenges. We
measure your progress and achievements, relying on them to act as a benchmark
of your success and the success of those responsible for your development. As
your career evolves, your ambition and skill development could open many other
doors for you, including international assignments with Exxon Mobil
Corporation.
Network Advisor
Program (NAP)
At our Toronto and Calgary locations, we
offer you the opportunity to develop strong networks with senior managers,
technical and business professionals, and other new hires in an informal and
entertaining way through our Network Advisor Program (NAP).
NAP is a dynamic program designed to accelerate the integration of new hires
and students into ExxonMobil within their first years of employment. The two
main features of the program include NAP evening events and advisor lunches.
The evening events give you an opportunity to mingle and participate in
activities designed to promote networking with senior managers, professionals
and other new hires from a wide range of areas within ExxonMobil’s business.
Past activities have included boat cruises, pool tournaments, murder mystery
dinners, casino nights and scavenger hunts. Additionally, you’ll have the
option of taking part in informal, one-on-one lunches with senior
professionals where you can learn about aspects of the company that may
interest you, such as potential career paths, company operations or other
areas of business.
Onwards and Upwards
To grow professionally, you'll want to continue to develop your individual
potential and apply your skills in a variety of settings and in more
challenging situations. Your impact will extend beyond just doing your own
work as you leverage your expertise through others. At the highest level of
competency, you'll provide strategic direction to the organization and lead
the company through a vision of where it needs to go. There may be
opportunities to develop your supervisory and management skills as well.
Ultimately, the skills you'll need to become a senior professional or senior
manager require the highest levels of technical competence, business judgment,
leadership and personal effectiveness.
If you’ve demonstrated
the ability and desire, you could enjoy the exciting prospect of considering
an international assignment with Exxon Mobil Corporation … we truly offer
global opportunities.
