Technology
leadership has been our standard from the company's beginning,
and we cherish that reputation. We know technology is key to our
business and to even better products for our customers. Exxon
Mobil Corporation invests more than a half-billion dollars a year
in research and development worldwide.
Serving Customers
At ExxonMobil Chemical
we build technology into our business units, manufacturing plants
and marketing groups. That means researchers and scientists are
integral to the teams focusing on customers' needs and ways to
meet them.
Nine specialized technology
centers are strategically located worldwide to provide resources
for our scientists to find the best ways to make our products,
improve environmental properties and help customers choose exactly
the right products for their uses. This support is part of the
quality pledge behind our products.
Licensing Experience
A licensing agreement
with ExxonMobil Chemical is more than an arrangement to use proven
chemical technology. It's a bond that directs all those involved
toward a common goal the success of the venture.
Our process technologies
are well established in several petrochemical markets. In the
paraxylene sector, our technologies have provided cost-effective
manufacturing tools for more than 25 years. Since their introduction
in the mid-'90s, our alkylation process technologies, developed
jointly with Raytheon Company, have made significant inroads into
the ethylbenzene and cumene markets.
Our Univation Technologies
joint venture continues its leadership in researching, developing
and licensing catalysts and processes for making polyethylene.
And our steam-cracking furnace design technology is available
to ethylene producers through a long-term global license agreement
with Kellogg Brown & Root, marketer of the process.
