State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (SPDES) permit
In March 2008, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) granted ExxonMobil the State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (SPDES) permit.
This permit will allow ExxonMobil to continue the complex remediation process which includes the pumping out of groundwater, treating it to remove contaminants and returning the treated water to the creek. ExxonMobil is also adding 10 recovery wells to the 11 that are already in operation at Greenpoint. To date, more than 9.5 million gallons of product have been recovered at Greenpoint.
ExxonMobil will continue to work cooperatively with the NYSDEC and others to ensure the safety and health of the community.
