governance of environmental matters

ExxonMobil Environment Policy describes how we conduct business in a manner that is compatible with the balanced environmental and economic needs of the communities in which we operate. We are committed to continuous efforts to improve environmental performance throughout our operations.

The ExxonMobil Board of Directors, through the Public Issues Committee, oversees environmental performance of the Corporation.

Operating companies also formally report their performance to Corporate Headquarters at least annually. At a dedicated meeting on safety, health, and environment matters, Company Presidents account for environmental performance to the ExxonMobil Chairman, and other members of the Management Committee.

Each year ExxonMobil publishes a summary of environmental performance data, activities, and awards. The 2006 Corporate Citizenship Report is the latest publication.

ExxonMobil also seeks opportunities to communicate with the public on environmental matters and share experience with others to facilitate improvements in industry performance. We publish Opinion Editorials on environmental matters. Executives share views on environmental matters and performance via speeches and publish articles. We also participate in industry environmental benchmarking, both directly with other oil and gas firms and via industry associations such as the American Petroleum Institute (API) and the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (OGP).  We are active in the International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association (IPIECA).
