Traditionally and through 2008, the Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy works with local superintendents to select teacher teams from communities where Phil Mickelson plays on the PGA TOUR or where ExxonMobil has operations. For the 2009 Academy, however, third- through fifth-grade teachers from accredited schools in every community across the United States may apply online.

The Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy recently launched sendmyteacher.com, an interactive Web site that allows students to nominate their third- through fifth-grade teacher to be one of the 100 teachers who will be selected for an all-expense paid trip to next year’s math and science professional development program. Students can send their teachers an electronic note or print out a certificate to encourage them to apply for the program. Teachers are also able to self nominate for consideration.

Teacher applications are due by October 31, 2008. At that time, the National Science Teachers Association and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics will convene a panel of math and science experts to evaluate the entries and select the 100 teachers who will attend the 2009 Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy. Selections will be announced in February 2009.
