Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR)

ExxonMobil has developed expertise in improved recovery techniques such as injecting liquids or natural gas into a reservoir to reduce or even reverse the natural decline of a producing field, depending upon a reservoir’s geology and other factors. These techniques can raise underground pressures and push oil through rock toward a producing well bore, increasing oil or gas recovery by up to three times what could previously have been captured without these technologies. ExxonMobil is a recognized industry leader in this technology, which enables us to breathe new life into mature reservoirs and produce more from existing developments ranging from the Means Field in Texas to the Upper Zakum oil field offshore Abu Dhabi.
