In March 2008, American Idol celebrities Fantasia Barrino and Elliott Yamin traveled to Africa as guests of Esso Angola. In the capital city of Luanda, they were trained to educate Angolans on how to purify their drinking water. Every year, millions of Africa children become ill as a result of dirty water, and ExxonMobil is working with partners to improve the health of African children by fighting water-borne and infectious diseases.
