security in diversity
In its Energy Green Paper, the European Commission recommends a policy of integrating markets internally — and opening markets externally. It’s a stance which we support. Because it recognises the reality that the world is becoming increasingly interdependent for its energy supplies. Increasing the diversity of sources and suppliers can only enhance the security of that supply.
Achieving this security will require government policies that enable efficient markets and remove barriers to international trade. Equally, it takes durable global trade relationships — and inter-governmental co-operation — to ensure that the necessary long-term investments are made.
