understanding which Uses are supported
The REACH regulation requires that manufacturers and importers include a list of supported uses (and exposure scenarios) in their REACH registration dossiers and extended safety data sheets. ExxonMobil consulted with its own customers through early 2008 until 30th November 2009 and industry consortia (CONCAWE for main fuel grades and LOA for petroleum gases) to identify and create a consolidated list of uses for its fuels products that was consistent within the petroleum industry. Effective April 2011, these supported uses have been incorporated into our new extended Safety Data Sheets, which are distributed to our customers and also available on our ExxonMobil internet website.
Please follow the steps below to determine whether your use is included as a Supported Use in our REACH registration and in our new extended Safety Data Sheet:
Step 1: Go to the ExxonMobil (Material) Safety Data Sheet internet website (www.msds.exxonmobil.com) and search for the relevant extended Safety Data Sheet by selecting the name and required language for the product that you purchase.
Step 2: The supported uses are located in Section 1.2 entitled “RELEVANT IDENTIFIED USES OF THE SUBSTANCE OR MIXTURE AND USES ADVISED AGAINST”. The scope of each title is described using the applicable REACH Use Descriptors: Sector of Use (SU), Process Category (PROC), Chemical Product Category (PC) and Environmental Release Category (ERC) in the exposure scenario annex of the extended Safety Data Sheet.
Step 3: If you find that your use is covered by the provided REACH Use Descriptors, there is no need to take any further action with ExxonMobil with respect to Use Communication for that particular product.
Step 4: It is anticipated that the vast majority of applications will be adequately described by Steps 1-3. However, in the unlikely case that your application is not covered, then it is recommended that you contact ExxonMobil by e-mail at reach.rs.supply@exxonmobil.com as soon as possible to provide details of the additional use that you would like ExxonMobil and/or its suppliers to consider.
