- Chairman's Safety Grand Award was presented to one work location for achieving safety excellence, including completing the whole year injury free, without even a first aid.
KUALA LUMPUR, April 26 -- ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Malaysia Inc. (EMEPMI) today presented awards to its employees and contractors in recognition of their safety excellence during 2010. The recipients received their awards from Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Abdul Rahim Bakri, representing the Minister of Transport and ExxonMobil Subsidiaries in Malaysia Chairman Hugh Thompson. "A commitment to safety should not be a priority, but a value — a value that shapes decision-making all the time, at every level. By instilling the value of safety in our employees from their first day at work, ExxonMobil strives to create a working environment in which safe behaviours are internalised, reinforced and rewarded," said Thompson. "For a culture of safety to flourish, it must be embedded throughout the organisation. Therefore, safety leadership at ExxonMobil comes not just from supervisors and managers, but from employees and contractors, and through channels both formal and informal. We have found that when everyone in the workplace speaks the same language of safety — employees and contractors alike — everyone can work collaboratively, safely and effectively," continued Thompson. The Semangkok A platform received the Chairman's Safety Grand Award for achieving safety excellence including completing 2010 without any injuries, not even a first aid, to both its employees and contractors. Seven other platforms received the Chairman's Safety Gold Award for staying hurt-free for a full quarter. A total of 42 contractor companies were recognised for their safety achievements. Nine contractors received the Gold Award for completing between 100,000 to 300,000 workhours without any injuries during 2010. These contractors were involved in drilling, logistics, aviation and inspection services for EMEPMI's offshore facilities. Another 33 contractor companies who completed below 100,000 workhours of injury free operations received Recognition Awards.
