At ExxonMobil, community service is a way of life. We are very proud of our employees who have been the driving force behind the success of our various employee volunteer programs. Our employees' passion and willingness to commit their time, ideas and resources help to make our contributions to the community more meaningful and far-reaching.
Community Projects program One of our most successful and enduring volunteer programs is the annual Community Projects which started in 1994. In this program, our employees and their families work directly with community members in a variety of projects such as upgrading schools, recreational and other community facilities, setting up tuition centres for rural children, spending time with senior citizens and taking children for outings and environmental camps. Such projects benefit the community through aid and assistance, while our employees gain insight and satisfaction from helping those around them. Through this direct involvement we can create a difference in each other’s lives in meaningful ways, reflecting our theme of “Touching Lives Together”. ExxonMobil Young Entrepreneur (EYE) Program The EYE program is a unique outreach program where our employees volunteer their time and offer guidance to encourage entrepreneurship and good business ethics among young Malaysians. Secondary school students in participating schools are entrusted with RM1,000 seed capital for their chosen business and the responsibility of stewarding the business to profitability within a six-month period. At the end of the project, the students retain whatever profits they make but return the RM1,000 seed capital to the school to recycle the money and continue organizing future projects. EYE was established by ExxonMobil in 1991 in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Entrepreneurial and Cooperatives Development. Since its inception, the program has reached more than 2,000 students from over 70 schools, mostly in the Klang Valley.
Employee Involvement Program (EIP) The EIP was conceived as far back as 1989 to encourage the spirit of volunteerism among our staff and provide a valuable avenue for us to reach out to the community. Each year we offer our employees who are actively serving in civic and community organizations the opportunity to receive an EIP grant to help fund their chosen projects. Through the years our employees have employed these funds in a myriad of causes, such as purchasing equipment for schools, upgrading public facilities, resource centers and hospices as well as sponsoring various student activities. In the process, we’ve enjoyed warm and enduring relationships with members of the community, making the EIP a mutually-beneficial effort for all parties.
