Mobil Serv℠ Cylinder Condition Monitoring helped vessels reduce cylinder oil consumption by 5.6 per cent

Shortly after taking delivery of the vessels M/V Hanjin Buenos Aires and M/V Hanjin Versailles it became clear to Danaos Shipping that reduced load operation could cause issues for their Wärtsilä 7RT-flex82C engines.

The company asked ExxonMobil to conduct scrape down oil analysis from the ships’ main engines using the Mobil Serv℠ Cylinder Condition Monitoring in order to determine the scale of the problem and the best solution.

On-board and laboratory tests showed that Mobilgard™ 570 cylinder oil provided full protection at a feed rate of 0.8 g/kWh, a saving of 5.6 per cent. The vessel operator was also able to extend time between overhauls, decrease maintenance costs and reduce the vessels’ environmental impact due to lower amounts of sludge oil disposal.
