Baton Rouge Chemical Plant (BRCP)
history
The Chemical Plant separated from the Baton Rouge Refinery in 1940. It has introduced a number of technological firsts. In 1931, for example, still as a chemical unit within the Refinery, it produced butyl rubber for the first time in history.
BRCP today
We are staffed by more than 1,100 employees and 400 contractors and manufacture nearly 8.5 billion pounds of petrochemical products per year. This makes us one of the largest chemical plants in the world.
end products and their uses
We receive our feedstock from the adjacent Refinery, and it includes gas oil, cat gas, ethane & propane, higher olefins and powerformate. Products we make are widely used in our everyday lives:
achievements and awards
We have a history of excellent safety performance. In 2005, we received three National Petrochemical and Refiners Association awards for meritorious safety performance.
