New Science Center in Sandnes
A new, national Science Center is being built in the municipality of Sandnes where ExxonMobil has its main office in Norway. Science centers are popular science experience centers, particularly aiming at stimulating children and youngsters’ interest for technology and science, and also conveying knowledge about research in active and engaging ways. ExxonMobil has so far donated three interactive and educational games - the Energy Cycle, the Energy Balance and Energy Outlook - to the Science Center. The plan is that the center will open in 2008 when this region will be "European Capital of culture."
The monster diggers 2007
ExxonMobil has agreed to be the main sponsor of the "Monsterdiggers 2007" lead by Natural History Museum, University of Oslo. The main aim of this expedition is the excavation of a fossile skeleton found at Svalbard, one of the world's largest monsters ever - a Pliosaurus. This marine reptile lived at Svalbard during the Jurassic age about 150 million years ago, and it was about 10 meters long. The skeleton seems to be very well preserved. The discovery may thus have great importance for the understanding of these giant prehistoric animals.
