Job: Field Manager Jotun and Sigyn fields, Forus Background: Master of Engineering in Ocean Engineering, Texas A&M, graduated 1992
“I’ve just become Field Manager of the Jotun and Sigyn fields. I very much look forward to taking on this task – which is at the base of everything we do. Here I can make use of all my earlier experience, both within safety, health and environment, integrity and process optimalization, planning of activities, and cooperation. Almost every day a new challenge pops up, and you have to solve it as quickly as possible. What I look most forward to is to work with the clever organization offshore, stretching for new goals together.
My previous job was leader of the SHE (Safety, Health and Environment) work for the fields which ExxonMobil operates in the North Sea – both on the Norwegian and UK side. HMS has highest priority in our company, so there has never been lack of focus at any level! A lot of things are going on with SHE, and maybe especially within the environmental side. Our industry has to meet many challenges, and we are ready to do so.
Earlier on I worked as head of the group responsible for inspection and process optimization on the installations we operate. We worked closely with the offshore team, and often went out to assist them on various issues. That applied particularly to inspections, where we have engineers who lead the work offshore, being involved in creeping through tanks, climbing up cranes and that sort of thing.
Working for the world’s largest oil company is exciting. We have an incredibly large number of operations worldwide, and constantly try to learn from each other. That gives us the opportunity to work internationally. I’ve had three spells abroad – in Houston, where I was involved in research on production ships, in the Netherlands, where I supervised one of the main contractors for the Jotun project, and finally in London, where I worked on the company’s plans for West Africa.
I’m now at Forus, and really thrive here. We have a fine working environment, with a good mix of older and younger personnel and Norwegians/foreigners. The social environment outside work is also good here. We have an active recreation club which offers us a variety of activities, and cabins in the mountains and by the sea which are much in demand.
After 14 years, I can say that working for ExxonMobil is exciting and challenging. No day is like the one before!”
