As a responsible global energy company, we believe that good corporate citizenship means meeting the growing demand for energy in an economically, environmentally and socially responsible manner (01.06.04).

In 2003, we made significant improvements in our global performance:

• Energy efficiency – We achieved record performance in energy efficiency across our refining business
• Environment – We achieved the fewest oil spill incidents in our history
• Safety – We had the fewest number of safety incidents in our history
• Community Engagement  – We continued to make a positive contribution and strengthen local communities, including the support of health initiatives in the fight against malaria  and funding of education programs
• Economic contribution – Our global economic contribution (such as wages, taxes and payments to suppliers) exceeded $244 billion

We are committed to continuous improvement and we aim to make 2004 an even better year than 2003.
