As the first company in Norway, the Esso refinery at Slagen near Tønsberg
today starts the distribution of biodiesel to the Norwegian market. Autodiesel
delivered to Esso’s customers by tankers from Slagen will from now be
low-blend biodiesel, up to 5 vol%, so-called Autodiesel B5 (hereafter called
B5).
In the short term this signifies that around 70 Esso
stations in eastern Norway will get supplies of B5. Other Esso diesel
customers, who receive their supplies from Slagen, will also be able to get
B5.
During the course of the summer the Slagen refinery will
be capable of supplying B5 by ship to other storages, which will facilitate
the supply of B5 to larger parts of the market.
As a result
of the Slagen refinery investment Esso is now favourably placed for being in
the forefront of this development.
The Slagen refinery
supplies approximately 40% of the Norwegian market for autodiesel and also
exports substantial volumes of autodiesel. If the export markets were to
demand it, export volumes can also be supplied as B5.
The
current initiative and the further implementation in other areas of the
country are based on present framework conditions and logistic structures.
Unless any aspects of this are significantly changed, Esso will continue its
efforts to offer biodiesel to the rest of the country.
