Unofficial world record at the Dusavik Shorebase outside Stavanger
In January 2009 the Esso employees and the Norsea personell at the Dusvik supply base outside Stavanger achieved 20 years without any lost time incidents. This is a result workplaces with such high potential for injuries normally do not manage to achieve.
At the base heavy equipment is handled, many lifting operations are being preformed, transportation takes place at the quayside and now one of the company's most important goals - "Nobody gets hurt" - have been reached for the 20th time in a row.
- Even if we do not have any numbers to prove it, we think this may be an unofficial world record, says ExxonMobil's Marine & Shorebase Supervisor Øystein Hass. - The good result shows that we are taking care of each other, that we have focus on safety and that we have good tools, procedures and systems. Good team work is essential, he says.
- It is the everyday work which is the challenge. During routine operations, it is easier to take shortcuts and make mistakes. That's what all experience tells us. When big projects are carried out, the focus on both tasks and safety is intensified through Safe Job Analysis (SJA), but of course accidents may also happen then. The safety delegate at the base always has a briefing with everyone coming in to work at the base so that they know what is expected from them in every way, and that safety has first priority.
