|  | Q1. Do you only recruit Chemical Engineers?
A1. No - we recruit from all degree disciplines. Please refer to the Graduate Opportunities section of our website for details of our functional requirements.
Q2. Do you recruit graduates who need work permits? A2. Unfortunately, we are unable to consider your application if you do not have the current right to work in the UK. However, in certain circumstances, e.g. for those who wish to apply for our Geoscience or Chemical Engineer positions, we may be able to consider applications from candidates who do not have a current right to work in the UK. Q3. Do you offer International Opportunities? A3. With international business continually expanding in all business functions the opportunities are even greater. Assignments are offered abroad via our graduate interchange programme with our European affiliates. This programme will provide a 3-5 year graduate excellent opportunities to gain international experience for an 18-month period. Our best performers have the greatest chance to take up one of these opportunities. Q7. What training and development do you provide for graduates?
A7. All new graduates will have a personalised comprehensive training and development package. We also encourage graduates to achieve chartered status where appropriate e.g. IChemE, CIMA. Please refer to the Training and Development section of the website for further details.
Q8. Is there a flexible start date?
A8. The start date is mutually agreeable but most students start work in September. Deferred entry is also a possibility if mutually agreed.
Q9. Can I speak to someone in the function to which I am applying for more information?
A9. For more information around the roles you can expect to undertake you can refer to the graduate profiles. Should you attend an assessment centre you will have the opportunity to speak with the graduates who will provide you with an overview of their career to date and answer any questions you may have. If you are made a job offer, we will put you in contact with management and graduates in your area.
Q10. I applied a couple of years ago - can I apply again?
A10. You may apply only once within a recruitment cycle. Feel free to reapply during the next recruitment cycle if you feel that your circumstances have changed and if you have enhanced your skills and experiences since your last application.
Q11. Can I apply now for September 2010?
A11. Yes, but please mark this clearly on your application form.
Q12. I'd like an undergraduate one year placement or summer placement. How do I apply?

Q13. Where are you located in the UK?
A13. Please refer to the map on our Where? page.
Q14. How long is your Assessment Centre process and what does it involve? A14. The Assessment Centre process takes place over 1 or 1.5 days depending on the function to which you have applied. It may include a combination of panel interview, intray exercise and a business simulation exercise. You will also have the opportunity to meet managers and recent graduates. Q15. I'm on holiday during some of the interview dates, can I still apply/be considered? A15. Yes, please mark clearly your availability on your application form. (As interviews are taking place between October and March, there should be opportunity for all but do bear in mind that we recruit continually until our positions are filled).
Q16. Can I move between functions once I've joined the company?
A16. Cross-functional career development opportunities exist where there is a mutual fit between your aspirations and the business need. We do prefer that our new graduates gain a firm grounding in the function they join before moving on.
Q17. Can I apply for a non-graduate position?
A17. No, unless you are applying for the traineeship scheme. For most opportunities (undergraduate, graduate and experienced hire), graduate degrees are required. Further details will be provided either on the job advert (if applicable) or on the relevant web-page.
Q18. Can I send you my CV instead of completing an application form?
A18. In order to offer you the best service possible, we are no longer accepting CV's or applications sent in via email or post. Please submit an online application form. Click on apply now. Should you wish, you can upload sections of your CV as part of your on-line application, which should reduce the amount of time needed to complete the application form. This enables us to look at all candidates consistently. Q19. If English is not my first language, does this present a problem in the Assessment Centre? A19. Our business language is English and we therefore expect candidates to have a reasonable degree of fluency. All elements of our assessment are conducted in English Q20. Please advise the selection criteria you apply to the recruitment process A20. We seek evidence of intellectual depth, interpersonal skills, decision making and sound business conduct. It is important that applicants can demonstrate good communication skills combined with a desire to work in the oil and gas industry. Q21. What is the dress code for the Assessment Centre or any other formal assessment activity? A21. For face to face events, business dress is suitable. Q22. What is the ExxonMobil Engineering Challenge? A22. The ExxonMobil Engineering Challenge is an exciting opportunity to work with ExxonMobil staff in a fun and competitive environment. The event takes place over 3 days in Aviemore, Scotland as well as Calshot, Southampton. If you are interested in applying, please send an e-mail to uk.recruitment@exxonmobil.com. We will send you more information relating to the event together with eligibility criteria Q24. Do you provide individual student sponsorships/bursaries? A24. No. We elected to fund other major activities within the Higher Education structure through EMETA (ExxonMobil Excellence in Teaching Awards). We prefer that many students benefit rather than specific individuals. Q25. If I am successful in securing a summer/one year placement, am I automatically considered for a graduate position? A25 After completion of the Summer course and placement year, you would be considered for graduate conversion via a 1:1 with your line manager or an assessment centre at the end of your placement. Q26. Can I save and continue when completing my on-line application form? A26. Yes, to do this you need to save the application as a draft by clicking on the save and exit button. Q27. It is essential to have a certain number of UCAS points to apply for a position? If yes, what is the number? A27. UCAS points do not form part of the selection criteria but we will expect you to be on track to achieve a 2:1 degree as a minimum. Q28. If I am successful in securing a job with ExxonMobil in a location not close to my home, will you provide relocation assistance? A28. Yes, we will reimburse relocation costs ie removal of personal effects from home to your new home. In addition, we provide a re-settlement allowance of £2,500. This is in addition to the month in a hotel. Q29. Some companies are offering a ‘golden hello’ – does ExxonMobil do this and, if so, how much? A29. Yes, we do. It’s offered as a bursary of £1,000 and you can expect to receive this on return of your signed offer. Q30. How long does the application process typically take? A30. We have introduced a new system this year which will help expedite applicants through the process. The average turnaround time is 8 weeks. Please go to our application deadlines for more information. Q31. Can i claim expenses? A.31 You may claim reasonable travel and accommodation expenses. A document detailing what we consider to be reasonable expenses and how to claim them will form part of your invite to interview.
