Fawley Maintenance Apprenticeship Opportunities Situated on the western side of Southampton Water, Fawley is one of the largest oil refining and chemical manufacturing complexes in Europe. Fawley is Esso’s only UK refinery, producing oil products for Esso Petroleum Company Limited, and petrochemicals for ExxonMobil Chemical Limited. Our apprenticeships We offer three different apprenticeships that start in September of each year: • Machinery • Control • Metal Trades Machinery Are you a practical person? Do you enjoy taking things to pieces and repairing them? If so, the machinery apprenticeship is for you! Within the site there is a vast amount of equipment to be maintained. We have miles and miles of pipes with valves, exchangers and towers along the way. There are hundreds of pumps of all shapes and sizes, compressors large and small - some as large as a van! As a Machinery apprentice you will work in our workshops and out on site. You will learn to work to high standards and use high tech methods including lasers and computers. Control Do you have a logical mind? Do you enjoy solving problems? If the answer is ‘yes’, then a Control Apprenticeship is for you! As a Control Apprentice your training will cover electrical and instrument work. Electrical Fawley Refinery has its own power station which generates as much electricity as the whole of Southampton uses - so we need people with the right skills to work on anything from low voltage alarm systems right up to 11,000 volt motors Instrumentation The control and operation of all parts of the site is by computer, electronic and pneumatic instruments. Metal Trades Are you a creative practical person? Do you enjoy making things and can use your common sense and a broad range of new skills to solve maintenance problems? If so, the Metal Trades apprenticeship is for you! In Fawley, we have many miles of pipe, gleaming towers, reactors, tanks, exchangers and structures. Metal Trades technicians work on the metal fabric of the site to keep it safe and sound! We don’t just expect our Metal Trades technicians to weld, fit pipework and fabricate components from sheet metal. They also need to know how to use lifting equipment such as cranes to control the movement of heavy components and the use of the latest metal repair technologies. As a Metal Trades apprentice you will work in our workshops and out on site.
