Contact Engineer, Cracking and Treating
Studied Chemical Engineering at Christ's College, Cambridge
During my final year at university, I applied for graduate jobs with a view to deferring my start for one year so that I could take the opportunity to travel. I was looking for a company that was flexible enough to allow me to defer my start but also offered a comprehensive training programme, responsibility from the outset and the opportunity to work with friendly and motivated colleagues.
After completing my engineering degree, I travelled for one year and then started working for ExxonMobil at our Fawley refinery in September 2002. I joined the Technical department, working in the Catalytic Cracking, Residfining and Treating section. To date, I have been working on the Cracking plant offering daily technical advice to the operations team as well as helping to troubleshoot problems. I have also completed several longer term projects to bring about improvements in reliability and throughput.
Currently, I am in the process of learning about the Treating plants and will be taking responsibility for their operation, from a technical standpoint shortly.
The challenges and opportunity to apply the knowledge I gained at university, allied with the corporate training courses in management and business skills will give me an excellent foundation to build my career in engineering.
