Mark Annett
Job Title: UK/Ireland Pricing Analyst
Studied: BSc Management at Queen's University, Belfast
When I graduated I wanted to work for a global company that had exciting assignments. I had already completed an Industrial Placement year and really enjoyed working for ExxonMobil, so I decided to apply for a graduate position here. It was the first offer I got, the only job I applied for and I was happy to accept!
My first role was as a Financial Business Analyst where I was responsible for our monthly fuels volumes analysis. I was also involved in analysing investments, retail procurement issues and team controls. In addition I was responsible for forecasting demand for all fuels sold in the UK and Ireland, and communicating with the refinery so that they would know how much product to produce. The main challenges in this role were to meet tight deadlines, and to continually improve the analysis to make demand forecasting more accurate and production more efficient.
I then moved to my current role as a Pricing Analyst, which oversees pricing in all service stations on a day to day basis in the UK. This involves advising management on pricing tactics, implementing new strategies, maintaining complex systems and completing analysis on pricing performance. In this role I also work closely with Public Affairs to deal with media interest. This can be particularly challenging in times of major fluctuations in product costs!
During my time with ExxonMobil I've found the company culture to be very flexible, and work-life balance is what you want it to be. There is never pressure to work 12 hours a day every day of the week, and it is very much down to me to manage my time to suit my own requirements.
My next assignment is likely to be as a territory manager within the UK, looking after a number of service stations - a very different job from my experiences to date! The operational experience should prove invaluable.
Before I am 30 I would really love to work within Retail for Imperial Oil in Canada (Exxon Mobil Corporation's Canadian subsidiary). I've got dual nationality between Britain and Canada and would love the chance to use it working for ExxonMobil!
