Studied Economics and Finance at Ecole des Ponts (French Engineering University), Business Administration at CDI (Collège des Ingénieurs) and Law in La Sorbonne-Paris (CAVEJ)
Having studied engineering for six years I wanted to continue to use the knowledge and analytical skills I had acquired. ExxonMobil Gas & Power Marketing was offering positions that I felt were able to meet these requirements with the added advantage of a commercial focus to the work.
As a native French speaker I relished the opportunity to utilise my English language skills and was immediately attracted to being located in the UK. Admittedly I was apprehensive of moving to a new city, a new country and starting my first job. Having a month's paid accommodation helped me to settle down and gave me more time to find something more permanent. Once at work, I was quickly able to establish a support network with my mentor and with colleagues, many of whom had been through similar experiences. Training has been a mixture of on-the-job training from more experienced colleagues and more formal training courses as part of the company’s structured global training programme.
During my first year in ExxonMobil Gas & Power Marketing, I was given the responsibility to negotiate commercial arrangements to minimise the cost of transporting our gas to our customers. This required an understanding of our customers' needs and the alternative transportation options available in each country. To do this I kept in regular contact with both the pipeline owners and our customers to ensure that our equity gas continued to flow correctly.
During the following four years, I held diverse positions in negotiations, business analysis, coordination and supervision both in the UK and the USA where I moved for a 3-year expatriate assignment. My last position was Business Analysis Manager for the Americas area: I managed a team of six analysts responsible for evaluating gas projects such as LNG contractual arrangements or commercialization of new gas developments.
Today, I am on parental leave in the USA to look after my daughter, Tessa, who is just two months old. When I look back at the work I have been involved in, I can say that ExxonMobil Gas and Power Marketing has given me what I was looking for. I have enhanced my degree knowledge, analytical skills and understanding of the energy business in Europe and the Americas as well as was provided continued opportunities for advancement: all of which could be achieved without sacrificing my family life.
