Metal Trade Apprentice
I first became aware of the ExxonMobil's apprenticeship scheme after seeing an
advert at my school and then attending the Open Evening that was very
informative. From that I decided to apply for a Metal Trades position because
I have always been practically minded and like doing 'hands on' work and also
like the challenge.
In this three year apprenticeship you spend your first year at SETA
(Southampton Engineering Training Association) where you learn the basic
skills needed. The main disciplines are plating, pipefitting and welding.
You also learn many other practical skills and end up with a huge knowledge of
engineering. In your second and third years we will be on site and begin day
release to college to complete your BTEC. Once on site you can gain more
scope towards your trade and become competent in your work.
I am glad I chose this apprenticeship as so far it has been great and there
are many benefits like the share scheme and all the team building events.
Overall it is a brilliant apprenticeship and you should try your hardest to
get it.
