Name:            Melissa Ashcroft
Degree:         BA Economics and Statistics with European Study
University:    Exeter
Job title:       Global Operations Planning and Analysis Advisor
Employer:     ExxonMobil

Following a four year degree at Exeter University, which included a year studying at Grenoble University, France I decided it was time to join an international company and start to earn my living!  I was attracted to ExxonMobil, as was looking for a company which could offer a wide variety of roles and career paths across the globe.  I was also really impressed with the people I met during the recruitment process.  The final thing that clinched it for me was the graduate training programme at the London Business School.

My first role was in Industrial and Wholesale, Fuels Marketing providing customer support to the UK Sales Managers.  This involved working with a portfolio of customers to ensure that their pricing letters, invoices and customer contracts were kept up to date and customer queries were handled efficiently.  Within six months I was given responsibility for rolling out the Pricing module of the new SAP system.  This European systems project was being implemented in the UK and meant European travel, working with colleagues from different departments and learning skills to train other people.

After a couple more roles in Industrial and Wholesale, I moved into Marine Fuels as UK Sales and Operations Manager based at Fawley Refinery.  This was an exciting role, as I could nearly get my hands dirty, as one of my responsibilities was to work with the barge contractor to ensure the safe operation of barge deliveries to UK customers, for example ferries!

I am now in my ninth year at ExxonMobil and have just returned from maternity leave into a new role in Global Aviation in the Operations department.  As Planning and Analysis Advisor, I work on a wide range of projects to improve our current business and plan ahead on changes which need to be made for us to continue to be successful in the long term.  As this is a Global role, there is also lots of opportunity for worldwide travel.  With international customers who have local airport needs, Aviation is a great department to work in.

One day is never the same as the next, which is why I really enjoy working for ExxonMobil.
