Kids' Motorcycle Team Puts Safety First

Fawley (March 7, 2006) -- A children’s motorcycle team whose performance involves jumping through an eight foot tunnel of fire, has taken delivery of new safety equipment, bought with a grant of £500 from Esso and ExxonMobil Chemical at Fawley.

The No Limitz Motorcycle Display Team, which trains in the Southampton area, tours the country from May to September performing at many shows. Made up of seven to 18-year-olds, the team performs high speed routines, four car jumps, fast cross-overs and many other riveting stunts to impress the crowds.

The grant was donated under a special scheme designed to recognise the efforts of ExxonMobil employees and their families who contribute their time, talent and energy to schools, charities and non-profit making organisations. The grant scheme not only helps local organisations, but also improves the links between ExxonMobil and the local community. Esso IT controls advisor Judith Houghton, whose daughter Sarah, aged nine, is on the team that received the grant. The family live in Romsey and Sarah became interested in the team when she saw them perform at Broadlands in the autumn of 2004.

All the parents are involved with the team. Many are qualified first-aiders, scrutinisers who check the bikes before each performance or are trained to use the fire equipment. The donation will help replace the safety protection equipment worn by the young riders such as crash helmets, kidney guards and gloves, as well as to buy replacement fire extinguishers and enable the first-aiders to update their ongoing training. Judith Houghton said: “As a company ExxonMobil is very safety conscious so it is wonderful that they are prepared to share this with a group of youngsters. The children thoroughly enjoy being part of the team and No Limitz gives them the chance to develop their team working and safely try out new things.”

The ExxonMobil Volunteer Involvement Programme has so far contributed some £425,000 to local community projects since it was started three years ago.  The company is committed to being a good neighbour and awards a number of grants to local charities, community organisations and schools in the Waterside area each year.
