Fife (22 June 2007) -- During a recent club training session, Carnegie Swimming Club was presented with a cheque for £1,000 from the Fife Ethylene Plant.
The cheque was handed over by Geraldine Woods, whose husband John is an ExxonMobil employee.
The donation came from ExxonMobil's Volunteering Involvement Programme, which recognises the efforts of ExxonMobil employees and their families who carry out voluntary work for schools, charities and non-profit-making organisations. The programme gives employees and direct members of their families the opportunity to apply for £250 grants for every 20 hours of volunteering they give to a charitable or not-for profit organisation.
Geraldine is a Squad Representative with the club and the money will go towards the costs of additional coaching for both junior and senior members of the club.
She said: "We have a lot of very exciting talent in the club, and this money will help them all. It is a great contribution from ExxonMobil and is very much appreciated."
Since the Voluntary Involvement Programme began in 2002, 40 employees of the Fife Ethylene Plant and their families have given almost 5,000 hours of their time and earned approximately £60,000 in grants for local charities and not-for-profit organisations.
