Aberdeen (April 24, 2006) - Asirus (Asthma Support in Rural Scotland) today
received a donation of £1,000 from the Atlantic & Cromarty project team at
ExxonMobil’s St Fergus terminal.
Asirus is a Scottish
charity, founded in 2002, with the aim of supporting asthma sufferers in
remote and rural areas of Scotland.
Founder and manager,
Maria Murray, explained: “Having an asthma attack can be a distressing
experience. Getting prompt access to medical assistance is crucial. However
for those living in remote areas of Scotland where the roads are narrow and
weather conditions variable getting help to the right place quickly can be
challenging. This is why we have launched the Grid Reference Identification
Project (GRIP). With the support of the Scottish Ambulance Service our aim is
to improve response times by providing the Service with grid references for
asthma patients. The scheme has also been expanded to include patients with
other conditions such as diabetes or epilepsy, cardiac problems or
anaphylaxis."
ExxonMobil project manager, Russel Davies,
said: “In recognition of safety performance on the Atlantic & Cromarty site at
the end of last year, Asirus was nominated to receive an award of £1,000. We
are very pleased to be able to meet with Maria today to find out more about
Asirus’ GRIP project which will make a real difference to asthma sufferers
living in rural areas.”
