The Fife Ethylene Plant (FEP) in Scotland is operated by ExxonMobil Chemical.
The 210 employees at our Fife plant have worked closely with local communities
for over 15 years. The company supports and enhances local projects by
providing one-off financial payments to support community led work, as well as
dedicating time and resources to support larger projects tackling major social
issues such as drug abuse, the environment, health and education. The
following are a few of the ways we try to make a positive difference to our
local community.
A liaison committee gives managers and local
community representatives a forum for regular dialogue about local issues and
opportunities. The committee has also been involved in the organisation of
events such as ExxonMobil-sponsored theatre trips and lunches for over 1,000
senior citizens each year.
Over 8,000 fifth and sixth year
school pupils have attended the Safe Drive Stay Alive roadshow sponsored by us
and organised by Fife Emergency Services. The hard-hitting stage show makes
young people stop and think about the consequences of careless driving.
We supported Energy Action Scotland's information campaign that gives advice
to those who feel the cold or live in a cold home environment. We have also
sponsored their energy efficiency programme for local authority buildings.
Our support for three BTCV Green Gyms at Lochore Meadows, Townhill Woods and
Dalgairn Centre, Cupar, combines conservation and healthy exercise - with
people using outdoor manual work to improve their wellbeing and the local
environment.
Employees have given more than 100 hours of
their spare time assisting Fife Ranger Service on the Dalbeath March
Environmental Project at Hill of Beath.
Children entering the
ambulatory care unit and children's ward at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, are
finding it less traumatic due to the bright furnishings and equipment bought
with our donation.
24 local organisations and charities have
benefited from employees and their families devoting their spare time to
voluntary work. Grants totalling over £13,000 have been made available to the
organisations supported, through the company's Volunteer Involvement Programme
and Governor Scheme
ExxonMobil's Link Schools programme has
supported 16 local primary and secondary schools through science grants of up
to £1,000 and environmental education programmes.
