Neighbourhood Links Around Leatherhead

ExxonMobil has had a major presence in Leatherhead since 1990 and today nearly 1,200 employees and contractors are based at this site.

Over the years, we have developed links with a diverse range of local charities, not-for-profit organisations and community groups which touch many different sections of the local community. By providing charitable contributions and through the efforts of our employees, we have helped support the elderly, schools, homeless and the disadvantaged. Being a caring neighbour takes many forms and the following are a few examples of the ways in which we are helping to improve the quality of life of our local neighbours:

  • Queen Elizabeth's Foundation now has new computers to help disabled adults to enhance their job skills, ready for the working environment.
  • Equipment which aids and stimulates sensory experiences has been provided to 'SeeAbility', a local charity which cares for people who are blind or partially sighted and who have other disabilities.
  • The Rainbow Trust, which cares for bereaved families and parents with terminally ill children, has been able to refurbish their lounge and bedrooms and to renovate the garden at their Leatherhead house, which has enhanced the quality of stay for families using this facility.
  • Leatherhead & District Samaritans have received support from us over many years for their annual SAM 7 race in Leatherhead which raises crucial funds for the service.
  • Over the last few years, instead of sending out Christmas cards we have made donations to the Leatherhead Night Hostel. As a result, they've been able to upgrade security and purchase a new industrial washing machine.
  • When it comes to community health, we support the work of the local St John Ambulance, and have recently funded specialist non-standard equipment for their new ambulance. We have also donated new equipment for The Macmillan Butterfly Centre at the Epsom General Hospital.
  • There are 12 schools in the Leatherhead area benefiting from the UK wide ExxonMobil Growing School Links programme. This initiative is helping teachers link the curriculum to the reality of working life, while students are gaining an appreciation of the importance of industry to their local economy and the skills needed for the world of work. In addition to this, several dozen Leatherhead employees fulfil school governor positions.
  • Our employees and their families are encouraged to contribute to their local community in whatever way they wish. In addition to offering their personal time, they can request grants on behalf of the organisations with whom they are regularly involved. Grants have helped provide such things as new kit and equipment for youth soccer and cricket teams, games equipment for the Riding for Disabled, new tools and fencing for Surrey Wildlife Trust conservation work and allowed Dorking Rotary Club to provide a Christmas party for senior citizens.
