Responsible employer
How a company treats its employees is a key indicator of everything else it does. At ExxonMobil our commitment to our employees is set out in the following guiding principle:
The exceptional quality of our workforce is a valuable competitive edge. To build on this advantage, we will strive to hire and retain the right people and maximise their opportunities for success through training and development. We are committed to maintaining a safe work environment, enriched by diversity and characterised by open communication, trust and fair treatment.
We are committed to attracting, developing and retaining a premier workforce. Our recruitment process is global. Universities are the key source of potential management and professional employees. Through our graduate recruitment recruitment programme particular emphasis is given to attracting the best talent from a range of disciplines. Our efforts to build a diverse workforce are supported through our work with organisations such as Women into Science and Engineering and others that encourage ethnic minority applications to the top UK universities.
Highly skilled technicians and plant operators are also critical to our business and we actively support training schemes such as Modern Apprenticeships. Engineering apprentices learn practical engineering skills while working towards nationally recognised qualifications. We also support apprenticeships in business administration. Click here

Once we've attracted the best people, we strive to retain them by providing development opportunities over the full span of their careers. We encourage our managers and supervisors to foster an environment where continuous personal and professional growth is encouraged and where employees understand company expectations of high performance and individual development.
We also recognise that our employees have responsibilities outside of the workplace and have a number of programmes in place to help them achieve a work-life balance. These include options for flexible working, taking a career break, confidential advisory services and family relocation assistance.
