Road safety event saving lives
An ExxonMobil-sponsored annual road safety event is making a major contribution to efforts to bring down the number of traffic accidents around the company’s sites in Aberdeen, Leatherhead, Fife and Fawley.
Safe Drive Stay Alive reinforces ExxonMobil’s strong commitment to safety by alerting young drivers and passengers to the consequences of dangerous behaviour on the road.
The hard-hitting roadshow uses real-life stories from the emergency services and people who have been personally affected by accidents.
The latest event in Leatherhead included the screening of a new film, which was partly funded by ExxonMobil.
The audience mainly comprises young people from local schools and colleges, but ExxonMobil industrial placement students, graduate recruits and employees’ teenage children have also attended some of the events.
Statistics indicate that road injury and death rates are falling. For instance, the number of 16- to 25-year-olds killed or seriously injured in Fife in 2008 dropped to 45 – the area’s lowest figure in over a decade, down from 75 in 1997.
