Most of the BS and MS graduates with Computer Science and Management
Information degrees we hire have a technical background in computer systems
environments that need to be assessed and matched to an assignment for the new
employee. An initial training plan is developed with the supervisor to
complement the formal education and work experiences of the new employee
allowing him or her to be successful in the new job.
Formal Education Training will
consist of some instructor led classroom training that could be at ExxonMobil
or at a vendor's location. There is also an extensive library of
computer-based self-study eLearning available worldwide via the Internet.
There will also be some on-the-job training that is associated with particular
job assignments and experiences. ExxonMobil is a great place to develop peer
networks, interact with the company's subject experts, and be immersed in a
collaborative learning environment.
Mentoring Technical training is
specific to your job assignment and is paced to coincide with your individual
skill development. You'll be given specific work responsibilities from day one
to get you up and running. Plus, you'll have a specific technical mentor to
help "show you the ropes" and provide technical guidance and support.
Non-Technical Training Another key
aspect to your overall development is non-technical training aimed at
increasing your personal effectiveness. You'll receive guidance in essentials
like communication skills, teamwork, presentation skills, leadership and
general business.
Early Career Development You'll
quickly focus on developing core technical competencies and proficiencies
(breadth and depth) with your initial job assignment. Once you're able to
undertake routine tasks with limited supervision, your assignments may broaden
into other technical areas. To ensure a rewarding and satisfying career, we
work with you to align your professional goals with training, developmental
opportunities, and job assignments. Supervisors make an investment in
employees by ensuring that they are consistently challenged and expanding
their skills and knowledge. With excellent human, organizational, and
financial resources in a global company, you will have the support and
resources to be successful at ExxonMobil.
Onward and Upward To continue to
grow professionally, you'll want to continue to develop technical depth and
business knowledge to apply your skills in a variety of settings and in more
challenging situations. Your impact will extend beyond just doing your own
work as you leverage your expertise through others. At the highest level of
competency, you'll provide strategic direction to the organization and lead
the company through a vision of where it needs to go. There may be
opportunities to develop your supervisory and management skills as well.
Ultimately, the skills you'll need to become a senior professional or senior
manager require the highest levels of technical competence, business
judgement, leadership and personal effectiveness.
