The Possibilities

If you have earned a BS or MS degree in Petroleum Engineering you may begin your career with ExxonMobil as a Petroleum Engineer in the following areas:

  • Reservoir

  • Drilling

  • Subsurface production

  • Surface facilities

These assignments involve the extraction and processing of hydrocarbons from subsurface formations. These opportunities will include working on the kind of major projects you would expect from a technical powerhouse like ExxonMobil.

The Hands-On

At ExxonMobil, engineers work in their initial functional area for 3-5 years. This is based on the time it takes to acquire the appropriate skills and knowledge to be considered fully qualified in that area. To enhance this experience and give you technical expertise, you will probably have more than one assignment in your functional area. Your responsibilities will increase as your technical capabilities increase.
