public information and policy research
ExxonMobil provides support to organizations that research significant domestic and foreign policy issues and promote informed discussion on issues of direct relevance to the business community and ExxonMobil’s operations. In 2007, worldwide contributions for Public Information and Policy Research totaled $6.2 million
with $6.1 million focused within the United States.
We support institutions with strong research capabilities and which contribute to informed U.S. policy decision making — among these are Stanford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Brookings Institution and Center for Strategic and International Studies.
As a global company that understands the importance of productive global relations, we also support programs that foster international understanding and engagement. We support the Council on Foreign Relations in its promotion of constructive discussion across public and private sectors, and to publish Foreign Affairs, a journal on global issues. Our involvement with the Asia Society, the Africa Society, the Corporate Council on Africa, the Arab American Institute, Mosaic, the Business Council for International Understanding, Seeds of Peace and similar organizations facilitates cross cultural understanding and engagement here at home as well as abroad. Many also support the construction of economic and cultural linkages across nations and cultures.
We also contribute to organizations committed to law reform in parts of the world where institution building is a crucial issue to both economic development and human welfare. Two examples are the Central and East European Law Initiative Institute, which engages in legal education and skills training for lawyers, judges and other legal professionals, and Temple University's Judiciary Training Program in China.
