Mobil Delvac™ 1640 provided exceptional protection for General Electric engines running on distillate fuel

LOOKING CLOSER

After 2,000 hours of service, Mobil Delvac™ 1640 helped provide exceptional cleanliness for General Electric 16V240 main engines running on distillate fuel. Preliminary tests showed low wear rates and high oil cleanliness, which over time could lead to lower maintenance costs and lengthen component life.

The field test took place onboard North Sea Shipping’s modern multipurpose offshore supply vessel, the North Sea Giant. Out of its six 16V250 main engines, running on distillate fuel containing 0.10 per cent sulphur, engines three and four were selected for the test and moved over to Mobil Delvac™ 1640.

The results highlight that this diesel engine oil protects against sludge and deposit build-up, lacquer formation, wear, and oil thickening and degradation. This in turn can help lead to longer oil and component life in addition to helping improve engine performance and reduce energy consumption.
