Hurricane season has begun: Stay prepared
At ExxonMobil, we are committed to the highest health and safety standards for our employees, contractors and customers at all our operations.
Hurricane season officially began on June 1, but the threat of tropical storms along the Atlantic coast is a reminder that hurricane preparations don’t start or end on a particular date.
These storms can be unpredictable, but action plans to stay safe during them are not. That’s why at ExxonMobil, we stress having up-to-date action plans not only for our facilities and employees, but also for their families and local communities.
Facility preparedness measures
Our industry has significant operations in the hurricane-prone Gulf of Mexico, so we must be diligent.
In the event of a hurricane:
- Call the supply hotline at 1-855-LOAD GAS (1-800-562-3427). The 24/7 hotline will remain our primary communication channel for allocation and loading problems.
- Verify that you have backup terminals set up in case your primary terminal is not operational. For a list of current "ship to" setups, email myaccount@exxonmobil.com.
- Contact any backup terminal(s) to ensure your carriers and/or drivers have a current Terminal Access Agreement.
- Ensure drivers are certified at backup supply sources; certifications may expire if not used for 60-90 days.
Stay prepared at home as well
One of the most important things you can do when there’s a threat of a hurricane is to get yourself, your family and your home prepared.
The National Weather Service published a series of videos that can help families and communities understand the risks of hurricanes and develop action plans. The Red Cross has an easy-to-follow guide for what to do before, during and after a hurricane, and a checklist of supplies and kits to have on hand.
You can view the videos on the National Weather Service website and download your checklist on the Red Cross website.
By having a plan and using a safety checklist, you can make sure you’re doing everything you can to protect yourself from these dangerous storms – at work and at home.
