Have you ever wondered how the islands of Oceania, including Bali, Taiwan and Hawaii, were named by explorers such as Captain James Cook and John Byron? Many were named in honour of Lords or the discoverers themselves; some took the local language for more descriptive terms including ‘beautiful’ or ‘the reefs’.
