M/V Tabea’s engine operated on heavy fuel oil (HFO) and was showing signs of cold corrosion and increased levels of deposits. Concerned at the potential impact this would have, vessel operator Peter Döhle Schiffahrts-KG worked with ExxonMobil field engineers to set up extensive field trials aimed at understanding the cause of the problem.
After making a switch to Mobilgard™ 5100 marine diesel engine cylinder oil, M/V Tabea minimised the impact of cold corrosion, cut cylinder oil feed rates by 25 per cent and ultimately experienced cost savings.
